IESUA

JESHUA. – Name of several biblical figures.

Besides a son (Hebrew fāšobh'ām, Vulg. Iesua) of the patriarch Asher (Gen. 46:17; Num. 26:44; 1 Chron. 7:30), the name fāšūa' (Vulg. Iesua) was borne by a priest entrusted with the ninth course of service in the Temple (1 Chron. 24:11), a Levite in the time of King Hezekiah (2 Chron. 31:15; Iesue), and a Levite who returned from Babylon with Zerubbabel (Neh. 12:8).
