VATICAN ILLUMINATION. - On Dec. 25, 1930, the first issue of this fortnightly periodical appeared, directed by G. Dalla Torre and by an editorial committee that included A. Mercati, B. Nogara and G. Peruzzi.
The publishing venture, embodied in Peruzzi, had the support of Vatican City even though it was not a direct emanation of it. The periodical, rich in illustrations, was well received by the public also because of the reflections of the recent Lateran Pacts. The glories of the pontificate of Pius XI were amply illustrated in it with articles by distinguished writers, and at the same time subjects of culture and art were treated in it with competence, which enrich its collection.
The periodical ceased, for various reasons, with the Oct. 1938 issue. An attempt to replace it with the Illustrazione romana met with little success.
