MAURI, ANGELO. - Lawyer and professor, b. in Milan on 21 Dec. 1873, d. there on 17 Nov. 1936. He was active in the young members' Catholic Action with F. Meda and in journalism with Fr. Albertario. A favorite disciple of Toniolo, he was an esteemed scholar of the social sciences.
For several years, after De Matheis, he was president of the F.U.C.I., and in 1903 he took over the direction of the Momento of Turin, a daily Catholic newspaper. A provincial councillor of Milan (1902) and then a deputy in Parliament for the XXII-XXVII legislature, a founding member of the Italian People's Party, in 1921 he became Minister of Agriculture and vice-president of the Chamber. With the advent of Fascism, he withdrew into private life, returning to his favorite studies, and was appointed to teach economic sciences at the Catholic University of Milan.
