ISTANZIO. – Among the disciples of Priscilliano, the bishop I. deserves special attention, because the 11 treatises discovered by G. Schepss and published in CSEL, 18 (1889) have been attributed to him rather than to the head of the sect. Written on an apologetic plane, they contain little of significance that would reveal the heresy of which Priscilliano’s contemporaries accused him. For this reason, Morin attributed them to I., but the solution proposed by the learned Benedictine patrologist did not satisfy everyone; and the authorship of the aforementioned treatises is still a matter of debate.
