LICINIANO
of CARTAGENA. -
He flourished in the years
582-602. According to
the scanty information
gathered from St. Isidore and from the
writings of L., he was
bishop of Cartago
Spartaria (today Cartagena in Spain).

Among his letters
three survive:
De libro regularum
to St. Gregory, pope of the city of Rome; to Epiphanius the deacon; to Vincent,
bishop of the island of Ebusus. L. was expelled and forced
to go to Constantinople, it is not known whether on some
official mission, and he died under mysterious circumstances "poisoned, so they say, by his own cimuli" (Isidore) in
the days of Maurice Augustus.

L., learned in Scripture and in tradition, defends the
spirituality of the human soul, distinguishes in the angels a
spiritual part and a corporeal one, and in his doctrine is inspired by Claudianus Mamertus. L. praises the Regula Pastoralis
of St. Gregory.
