the scant information
gathered from s.
Isidoro and from the
writings of L., he was
bishop of Cartago
Spartaria (today Car-
tagena in Spa-
in).
Of his letters, three remain:
De libro regularum
ad s. Gregorium pa-
pam urbis Romae; ad Epiphianium diaconum; ad Vincenti-
um episcopum Ebositanae Insulae. L. was expelled and forced
to go to Costantinopoli, whether on some official mission is
unknown, and died in mysterious circumstances, “poi-
soned, so they say, by his rivals” (Isidoro), in the
days of Maurizio Augusto.
L., learned in Scripture and tradition, defends the
spiritual nature of the human soul, distinguishes in angels a
spiritual and a corporeal part, and draws inspiration for his doc-
trine from Claudiano Mamerto. L. praises the Regula Pastoralis
of s. Gregorio.
