KASPER, Katharina. — In religion Maria, born in Dernbach (diocese of Limburg in Hesse) on 26 May 1820, died there on 2 February 1898. She spent her adolescence in study and in the practice of charitable works under her mother’s guidance. To aid the poor and needy, in 1848 she founded the Institute of the Poor Sisters of Jesus Christ. She endured persecution during the Kulturkampf, but in return she saw her institute cross Germany’s borders and expand into other regions. The cause for her beatification has been introduced.
