Keller, Paul

KELLER, PAUL. - German narrator, b. at Arnsdorf, near Schneidewitz in Silesia, on 6 July 1873, d. at Breslau on 20 Aug. 1932. First a teacher, from 1908 a writer, he founded and for years directed the monthly review Die Bergstadt.

His works, widely read, reveal his Catholic spirit, his firm morality, his understanding humanity and his intimacy of feeling. In addition to numerous novels, among them Waldwinter (1902); Die Heimat (1904); Der Sohn der Hagar (1907); Die alte Krone (1909); Ferien vom Ich (1915); Hubertus (1918); In fremden Spiegeln (1920); Dorfjunge (1925); Maria Heinrich (1926), he left several collections of short stories: Gold und Myrrhe (1898); Stille Strassen (1912).
