LALEMANDET, JEAN. – Theologian and philosopher of the Order of Minims, born in Besançon in 1595, died in Prague on 10 November 1647. He taught theology and philosophy for many years.
He published: Decisiones philosophiae (Monaco 1645–46): this is a complete course of philosophy, reprinted under the title Cursus philosophiae (3 vols., Lyon 1656); Cursus theolog-icus: I, De Deo Uno et Trino (ibid. 1656). The two works are posthumous. The following remained unpublished: Elucidaciones in institutiones iuris civilis and Institutiones iuris canonici, which L. had left, like the Cursus theologicus, ready for printing and already approved by his superiors. The doctrine is rigorously Aristotelian and Thomistic. L. is also praised for the holiness of his life.
