- Born at Barsac (France) on 1 Nov. 1754, died on 14 Sept. 1836. Already during the French Revolution she had occasion to display her zeal by virtually substituting herself, as it were, for the local parish priest in instructing and guiding the faithful in the practice of piety where she had taken refuge. But her most meritorious work, after escaping the judgment of a revolutionary tribunal, was the founding, at Bordeaux (1801), of “La Miséricorde” (Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy), an institute for the moral and civic re-education of wayward young women, in which thousands of souls found salvation. In 1923 the cause for the beatification of L. was introduced.
