LORENZO da PARIGI. - Capuchin writer and preacher. He entered the Order on 7 Oct. 1581. He was guardian, definitor, general custos, lecturer in philosophy and Hebrew (1611); he died at Meudon on 12 Apr. 1631.
St Francis de Sales, in the preface to the Traité de l'amour de Dieu, and Card. G. BON (v.) in Via compendii, chap. II (De amore Dei), praise him as a master of the science and art of the love of God on account of his Le palais d'amour divin de Jésus et de l'âme chrétienne, où toute personne tant religieuse que séculière peut apprendre à aimer Dieu en vérité (Paris 1602, 1603, 1613, 1614); of other volumes planned on the same subject, only Les tapisseries du divin amour ou la Passion de N. S. Jésus Christ appeared (ibid. 1631), in which an engraving in the first book depicts, perhaps for the first time in iconography, Jesus Christ showing his heart to the sinful soul through his open side.
