LORENZO MONACO. — Italian painter, b. in Siena in 1370 or 1371, d. in 1425. He carried out his principal activity in Florence, where he went in his twenties, entering the Camaldolese convent of

LORENZO DA PARIGI. — Capuchin writer and preacher. He entered the Order on 7 Oct. 1581. He served as guardian, definitor, general custos, reader in philosophy and Hebrew (1611); but at Meudon on 12 Apr. 1631.

St. Francis de Sales, in the preface to the Traité de l'amour de Dieu, and Cardinal G. BON (v.) in Via compendii, chap. II (De amore Dei), praise him as a master of the science and art of the love of God for his Le palais d'amour divin de Jésus et de l'âme chrestienne, où toute personne tant religieuse que séculière peut apprendre à aimer Dieu en vérité (Paris 1602, 1603, 1613, 1614); of other projected volumes on the same subject only Les tapisseries du divin amour ou la Passion de N. S. Jésus Christ (ibid. 1631) appeared, in which an engraving from the first book represents, perhaps for the first time in iconography, Jesus Christ showing His heart to the sinful soul through His open side.
