LUDOVICA of SAVOIA, blessed. — Daughter of Amedeo IX, duke of Savoia, and of Iolanda of France, born in Geneva on 28 December 1462. In 1479 she married Ugo di Châlon, lord of Chateau-Guyon, and was widowed in 1490. She then retired to the Convent of the Poor Clares at Orbe (Vaud), where she died on 24 July 1503. Her piety and her life of penance created around L. a reputation for holiness. The cult rendered to her in the monastery, and subsequently in public, was approved by Gregory XVI on 12 August 1839.
