LOUISE OF SAVOY, Blessed. - Daughter of Amadeus IX, Duke of Savoy, and of Yolande of France, born in Geneva on 28 December 1462. In 1479 she was married to Hugh of Châlon, lord of Chateau-Guyon, of whom she was left a widow in 1490. She then retired to the Convent of the Poor Clares of Orbe (Vaud), where she died on 24 July 1503. Her piety and her life of penance created around L. a reputation for sanctity. The cult paid to her in the monastery, and later publicly, was approved by Gregory XVI on 12 August 1839.
