MACAPÀ. – Nullius prelature in the federal territory of Amapà (Brazil), suffragan of Belem do Pará.
It has an area of 143,716 sq. km., with 40,000 inhabitants, of whom 38,000 are Catholics. It has 4 parishes with 30 churches and 14 priests (Ann. Pont. 1951, p. 560).
The prelature was erected by Pope Pius XII by the apostolic constitution Unius Apostolicae Sedis of 1 February 1949, by detaching from the nullius prelature of Santarem the federal territory of Amapà, establishing it as the see of the new prelature in the city of M. and elevating the local church of S. Giuseppe to a prelatic church.
