**MATTIAS** of Linköping. - A Swedish ecclesiastic who lived in the first half of the 14th century. He took part in the crusade of Magnus Eriksson in Russia (1348-49), urged on by St. Bridget. He is believed to have died of the plague in the epidemic of 1350. M. was confessor and spiritual director of St. Bridget and later became her devoted follower and defender.
His major work is a *Glossa super totam Bibliam*, now lost but preserved in part in a Swedish version. Other works attributed to him are: *Expositio super Apocalypsim*, of which manuscript copies are found in Italy and Germany, and *Copia exemplorum*, a collection of legends and moral tales.
