MELUZZI, SALVATORE. — Composer, born in Rome on 22 August 1813, died there on 17 April 1897.
Trained in the traditional Roman school, he was director of the Cappella Giulia in the Vatican for 45 years. His output—Masses, motets, psalms, and antiphons—is valuable for the profound feeling that animates it and for its suffused melodiousness. Although he reflects the period in which he lived, M. stands apart from his contemporaries through the nobility of his form and the greater sustained development of the theme.
