SALVATORE MELUZZI. — Master composer, born in Rome on 22 Aug. 1813, died there on 17 Apr. 1897.
Trained in the traditional Roman school, he was for 45 years director of the Cappella Giulia in the Vatican. His output—masses, motets, psalms, antiphons—is distinguished by its intimate feeling and subdued melodiousness. Although he reflects the spirit of his age, Meluzzi stands apart from his contemporaries by the nobility of his form and the greater sustained development of his themes.
