Meluzzi, Salvatore

MELUZZI, SALVATORE. - Master composer, b. in Rome on 22 Aug. 1813, d. there on 17 Apr. 1897.

Trained in the traditional Roman school, he was for 45 years director of the Cappella Giulia in the Vatican. His output: masses, motets, psalms, antiphons, is valuable for the intimate feeling that animates it and for a diffused melodiousness. Although he bears the mark of the age in which he lived, M. stands apart from his contemporaries for nobility of form and for greater sustainedness in the development of the theme.
