MENÉNDEZ, JOSEFA. - Religious of the Society of the S. Cuore di Gesù, b. at Madrid on 4 Feb. 1890, d. at Poitiers on 29 Dec. 1923.
Having consecrated herself to God from her earliest years and overcome serious family difficulties, she entered the Religious of the S. Cuore at Poitiers on 4 Feb. 1920, where she remained until her death. Engaged, as a lay sister, in all the external affairs of the House, she advanced in the interior life until she reached the heights of mysticism. A victim for the conversion of sinners, she experienced within herself the sufferings of the Passion of Jesus,
the harshest temptations of loneliness, doubt, and despair, and violent assaults by the devil. She left a “message,” allegedly entrusted to her by the S. Cuore, to be communicated to souls in order to increase their trust in his divine love, which would wish to inundate the world with its compassion and mercy.
