He became a religious in 1760, and at first taught theology to his brethren; then he was acclaimed as a preacher throughout the 19th century. His word and the example of his virtues were often confirmed by prodigious healings. In 1796 he was consecrated as coadjutor bishop of Reggio, and in 1800 Pius VII chose him as confessor and sacristan. Even in those stormy and uncertain times he never neglected his pastoral duties, devoting himself especially to the poor and the sick.
He wrote and published five *Novene* for the principal feasts of the Virgin. The cause of beatification was introduced on 27 April 1871.
