MICHAEL OF ATTALIA. — Born at Attalia (Pamphylia), he held a high office in Constantinople under Emperor Constantine Dukas (1059–67) with the title of patrician. He is the author of a legal compendium, a statute (*diataxis*) for a poorhouse and a monastery, and in his will he made provision for the donation of books to the monastic library. Finally, he wrote a history, completed in 1079–80, covering events from the years 1034–79.
