MICHELE, ATTALEIATE. — Born at Attalia (Pamphylia), he was a high official in Constantinople under the emperor Costantino Dukas (1059–67), with the title of patrician. He is the author of a legal compendium, of a statute (diataxis) for a house for the poor and a monastery—not forgetting in his will the gift of books to the monastic Library—and finally of a history, completed in 1079–80, concerning the events of the years 1034–79.
