MICHAEL OF THE SAINTS, St. — Born at Vich (Barcelona) on 29 Sept. 1591, died at Valladolid on 10 Apr. 1625. He took the habit of the Calced Trinitarians, and shortly afterwards, on 28 Jan. 1608, passed to the Discalced, recently founded by the Bl. John of the Conception. Characteristic of him were his extraordinary transports of love for God and the frequent ecstasies that overtook him everywhere: at Mass, in the refectory, in choir, in the pulpit, and in the street.
He left a treatise, *The Tranquillity of the Soul*, which Menéndez y Pelayo declared to be «stupendous» and «dense with ideas» (II. trans. in *Life and Mystical Writings of St. M. of the Saints*, Isola del Liri). He was canonized by Pius IX in 1862. Feast, 10 Apr.
