MILTIADES. - Christian writer of the 2nd century from Asia Minor. Literary opponent of the Valentinians (Tertullian, Adv., 5) and of the Montanists (anonymous anti-Montanist, in Eusebius, Hist. eccl., 5, 17, 1).He affirmed against the Montanists the principle that a prophet must not speak in ecstasy (Eusebius, ibid.). Eusebius knows of some apologetic writings by M., a work against the Greeks and another against the Jews, and finally an apology for his philosophy (=Christianity) before the rulers of the world (Eusebius, op. cit., 5, 17, 5). Of all his writings nothing is preserved.
