MISSIONARIE DI NOSTRA SIGNORA DEL ROSARIO. - The Institute was founded in Lille-sandra, in the diocese of Kilmore (Ireland), by Mons. Shanahan, Vicar Apostolic of Nigeria (Africa), primarily for the missions in that vicariate, and was canonically erected on 17 Sept. 1924 by decree of the local bishop.
The decree of praise and temporary approval of the Constitutions was issued on 8 Jan. 1938; definitive approval of these was granted on 22 Oct. 1945.
The special purpose of the Institute is the Catholic education of youth and the care of the sick in the missions. In 1948 the sisters numbered 133, with 34 novices, distributed in 13 houses, almost all in mission locations.
MISSIONARIE DOMENICANE DEL S.mo ROSARIO. - The Institute was founded in Lima (Peru) in 1913 by Mons. Raimondo Zubieta y Les, a Dominican, then Vicar Apostolic of Urabamba and Madre de Dios, and by Sister Maria dell’Assunzione Nicol, a religious of the College of S. Rosa in Nuerca (Spain). Until 1918 it used the Constitutions of the College of S. Rosa. In that year the new Constitutions were approved by the Archbishop of Lima. On 25 March 1920 the Institute was aggregated to the Dominican Order, and on 15 Sept. of the same year it established its regular novitiate in Pamplona (Spain).
On 22 Dec. 1931 the decree of praise with temporary approval of the Constitutions was issued; these were definitively approved on 21 May 1940.
The special purpose of the Institute is the evangelization of the infidels not only in the vicariate of S. Domenico di Urabamba, where it began, but also in other regions; the education of youth; and other works of mercy as needed.
In 1947 the sisters numbered 415, the novices 50, and the houses 25.
