MISSIONARIE DI NOSTRA SIGNORA DEL ROSARIO. — The Institute was founded at Killeshandra, in the diocese of Kilmore (Ireland), by Msgr. Shanahan, apostolic vicar of Nigeria (Africa), chiefly for the missions in that vicariate, and was canonically erected on 17 September 1924 by decree of the local bishop.
The decree of praise and of temporary approval of the Constitutions dates from 8 January 1938; their definitive approval from 22 October 1945.
The special purpose of the Institute is the Catholic education of young people and the care of the sick in the missions.
In 1948 the sisters numbered 133, and the novices 34, distributed among 13 houses, almost all in mission territory.
