MISSIONARIE DOMENICANE DEL S.mo ROSARIO. - The Institute was founded at Lima (Peru) in 1913 by Msgr. Raimondo Zubieta y Les, a Dominican, then apostolic vicar of Urabamba and Madre di Dio, and by Sister Maria dell'Assunzione Nicol, a religious of the Collegio di S. Rosa at Nuerca (Spain). Until 1918 it used the Constitutions of the Collegio di S. Rosa. In that year the new Constitutions were approved by the archbishop of Lima. On 25 March 1920 the Institute was aggregated to the Dominican Order, and on 15 Sept. of the same year it had its regular novitiate at Pamplona (Spain).
On 22 Dec. 1931 the decree of praise was issued, with temporary approval of the Constitutions, which were definitively approved on 21 May 1940.
The special purpose of the Institute is the evangelization of unbelievers, not only in the vicariate of S. Domenico di Urabamba, where it began, but also in other regions; the education of youth, and other works of mercy, according to needs.
In 1947 the sisters numbered 415, the novices 50, and the houses 25.
