MUSSINI, LUIGI. – Painter, born in Berlin on 19 December 1813, died in Siena on 18 June 1888.
A pupil of Bezzuoli at the Florentine Academy, he took part in the Purist movement; he was in Rome and in Paris, where he met Ingres. Appointed director of the Academy of Siena in 1851, he worked there until his death, also in the field of sacred art, providing the cartoons for the mosaics on the façade of Siena Cathedral, with the Nativity and the Assumption, and painting for the same Cathedral a canvas depicting St Crescenzo.
