NAVA, CESARE. - Engineer, parliamentarian, minister, b. in Milan on 7 Oct. 1861, d. there on 27 Nov. 1933. He was active in the Gioventù cattolica italiana. In Milan he was a municipal councillor, president of the Congregazione di Carità, of the Banco ambrosiano and of the "Pro Cultura" circle. Together with Broggi, he built the headquarters of the Banca d'Italia in Milan (1907-12). After the disastrous Calabrian-Sicilian earthquake of 1908 he worked tirelessly for the reconstruction of Calabria. He was a Catholic deputy elected for the constituency of Monza in the XXIII and XXIV legislatures. Having joined the Italian Popular Party, he was elected deputy for the constituency of Milan in the XXV legislature. In May 1918 he was appointed undersecretary for Arms and Munitions and from Sept. to Nov. commissioner in the same ministry under President Orlando. From June 1919 to March 1920 he was minister of the liberated lands with Nitti. On 18 June 1921 he was appointed senator for the 3rd and 5th categories.

In the period June 1924-July 1925 he was minister of National Economy.
