NICOLLE, LOUISE

NICOLLE, LOUISE. – Foundress of charitable works and of the Humble Daughters of the Sacred Heart, b. at St-Armand-les-Eaux (diocese of Cambrai) on 9 June 1847, d. on 31 July 1889. She undertook the founding of the « Patronage des jeunes ouvrières » (1873), the oldest institution of its kind in industrial northern France, of the « Oeuvre des Demoiselles du Lundi » and of the « Oeuvre des dots ». In the new house at St-Amand there arose the « Oeuvre des cathéchismes », « Oeuvre des retraites » and finally, with the collaboration of Mgr G. B. Carlier, the Congregation of the « Humbles Filles du Sacré Coeur » (which in 1921 was absorbed into the women’s branch of the Dominican Order), where N., in 1888, made her solemn vows. The informative process for her beatification was introduced in 1933 at the curia of Cambrai.
