NICOLLE, LOUISE

LOUISE NICOLLE. — Founder of assimilationist works and of the Humble Daughters of the Sacred Heart, born at St. Armand-les-Eaux (diocese of Cambrai) on 9 June 1847, died on 31 July 1889. She oversaw the establishment of the “Patronage des jeunes ouvriers” (1873), the oldest institution of its kind in industrial northern France, the “Œuvre des Demoiselles du Lundi” and the “Œuvre des dons.” In the new house at St. Armand arose the “Œuvre des catéchismes,” the “Œuvre des retraites,” and finally, with the collaboration of Msgr. G. B. Carlier, the Congregation of the “Humbles Filles du Sacré Cœur” (which in 1921 was absorbed into the female branch of the Dominican Order), where N. professed her solemn vows in 1888. The informative process for beatification was introduced in 1933 at the curia of Cambrai.
