NEW SCHOLASTICISM, THE. - Quarterly organ of the « American Catholic Philosophical Association », which, after the Conference of American neo-scholastic philosophers held in 1926 at the Catholic University of Washington, entrusted its editorship to Edward A. Pace and James H. Ryan.
Publication began in 1927 under the auspices of the Catholic University Press of Baltimore. In addition to articles on theoretical and moral philosophy and on the history of philosophy, each issue of the journal includes bibliographical reports and information on the state of philosophical studies throughout the world. In no. 1 of 1951 (the journal’s 25th year), the editorial emphasizes the contribution made by the journal to the dissemination of Thomistic thought and invites neo-scholastic philosophers to reconsider the philosophy of s. Tommaso in such a way that it may appear not as imposed « from above » but constructed « from below », as that which answers to the aspirations and needs of the human spirit (loc. cit., pp. 1-2). It is presently edited by Vincent Ed. Smith.
