NEW SCHOLASTICISM, THE. - A quarterly organ of the "American Catholic Philosophical Association," which, after the Congress of American Neo-Scholastic philosophers held in 1926 at the Catholic University of Washington, entrusted its editorship to Edward A. Pace and James H. Ryan.
Publication began in 1927 under the care of the Catholic University Press of Baltimore. In addition to articles on theoretical and moral philosophy and on the history of philosophy, the journal includes in every issue bibliographic bulletins and information on the state of philosophical studies in the world. In issue 1 of 1951 (the journal's 25th year), the editorial emphasizes the contribution made by the journal to the diffusion of Thomist thought and invites Neo-Scholastic philosophers to rethink the philosophy of St. Thomas in such a way that it presents itself not as imposed "from above" but as built "from below," as one that responds to the aspirations and needs of the human spirit (loc. cit., pp. 1-2). It is currently edited by Vincent Ed. Smith.
