ORSENIGO, CAROLINA. - Foundress of the Sisters of Reparation, b. in Milan on 15 Nov. 1822, d. there on 8 July 1881.

After a childhood devoted to the apostolate, especially in the prisons and in the hospital for fallen women, accepted by the Poor Clares of Lovere, she was held back by her confessor for the realization of a greater work. While waiting, she became particularly zealous, attending to the various school and catechetical activities of the parishes of S. Marco and S. Simpliciano, even transforming her own home into an oratory and school and gathering around herself a small group of faithful people. Having met Fr. Carlo Salerio of the Foreign Missions of Milan, she gave life with him to the new "Institute of the Sisters of Reparation" (2 Oct. 1859), dedicated to the worship of Jesus in the Eucharist with day and night adoration and to the re-education and salvation of souls in the many mandates of charity. She governed the Institute effectively until her death and saw it spread, surrounded by the esteem of the ecclesiastical and civil authorities.
