ORSENIGO, CAROLINA. - Foundress of the Suore della Riparazione, b. in Milano on 15 Nov. 1822, d. there on 8 July 1881.
After a childhood devoted to the apostolate, especially in prisons and in the hospital for fallen women, having been accepted by the Clarisse of Lovere she was retained by her confessor for the realization of a greater work. While waiting, she showed particular zeal in attending to the various scholastic and catechetical activities of the parishes of S. Marco and S. Simpliciano, also transforming her own home into an oratory and school and gathering around herself a small group of faithful persons. Having met p. Carlo Salerio of the Missioni Estere di Milano, she founded with him the new « Istituto delle Suore della Riparazione » (2 Oct. 1859), dedicated to the worship of Jesus in the Eucharist through day and night adoration, and to the re-education and salvation of souls through the manifold duties of charity. She effectively governed the Institute until her death and saw it spread, surrounded by the esteem of ecclesiastical and civil authorities.
