ORSENIGO, CAROLINA. – Founder of the Sisters of Reparation; born in Milan on 15 Nov. 1822, died there on 8 July 1881.
After a childhood devoted to apostolic work, especially in prisons and in the hospital for fallen women, she was accepted by the Clarisses of Loverce but was retained by her confessor for the realization of a greater work. In the meantime, she became particularly zealous, attending to the various educational and catechetical activities of the parishes of S. Marco and S. Simpliciano, transforming her own home into an oratory and school and gathering around herself a small group of faithful followers. Upon meeting Fr. Carlo Salerio of the Foreign Missions of Milan, she, together with him, founded the new “Institute of the Sisters of Reparation” (2 Oct. 1859), dedicated to the worship of the Eucharistic Jesus through day and night adoration and to the re-education and salvation of souls through various charitable missions. She governed the Institute effectively until her death and saw it spread, surrounded by the esteem of both ecclesiastical and civil authorities.
