PEMBROKE, Diocese of. - In the province of Ontario, Canada. On July 11, 1882, Leo XIII created the apostolic vicariate of Pontiac, which was elevated to a diocese by the bull Cum ex hac Beati Petri Cathedra, of May 4, 1898. The diocese of P. is a suffragan of Ottawa.

The total population is 102,109 inhabitants and Catholics number 50,460. The diocesan priests number 85, and the Oblates of Mary Immaculate are the only religious who exercise the ministry there. There are 50 churches, 28 missions with chapels, 2 hospitals, 48 parishes and 383 nuns of 9 different congregations.
