PEMBROKE, DIOCESE of. — In the province of Ontario, Canada. On 11 July 1882, Leo XIII created the apostolic vicariate of Pontiac, which was raised to a diocese by the bull Cum ex hac Beati Petri Cathedra, of 4 May 1898. The diocese of P. is suffragan to Ottawa.
The total population is 102,109 inhabitants, of whom 50,460 are Catholics. There are 85 diocesan priests, and the Oblates of Mary Immaculate are the only religious order exercising the ministry there. There are 50 churches, 28 missions with chapels, 2 hospitals, 48 parishes, and 383 sisters belonging to 9 different congregations.
