PICCOLE SERVE DEL SACRATISSIMO CUORE DI GESÙ

SMALL SERVANTS OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS. - Religious institute founded in Kraków in 1894 by Canon G. Sebastiano Pelzar, later Bishop of Przemyśl.

Its purpose is to propagate devotion to the Sacred Heart, and to provide for the material and spiritual needs of domestic servants, working women, and the poor sick. The institute was approved by the Ordinary on 23 Dec. 1906. On 14 Feb. 1909 it received the decree of praise, and on 17 Mar. 1912 that of approval of its Constitutions, which were definitively confirmed on 30 Jan. 1923. Before 1939 it had 52 houses with 554 sisters; the present number is unknown.
