Rector Potens Verax Deus

RECTOR POTENS VERAX DEUS. - Hymn of the hour of sext, composed by St. Ambrose.

The hour of sext corresponds to our noon. The heat of that hour reminds the author of the heats of the concupiscence of sensuality exploited by the noonday demon (Ps. 90:6). Against these the poet invokes divine action that it may temper their power.
