RAVANELLO, ORESTE. - Composer and organist, b. in Venezia on 25 Aug. 1871, d. in Padova on 2 July 1938.
Having graduated in organ at the age of 16, he continued his studies in composition and organ with Girardi, organist of the Marciana, whom he succeeded in 1895. In 1898 he was appointed chapel master at the “Santo” in Padova and, in 1902, also professor of organ at the “Benedetto Marcello” Lyceum. In 1914 he succeeded maestro Pallini as director of the Musical Institute of Padova. He was one of the foremost advocates of the revival of Italian organ art and sacred music. He wrote 30 masses for 1 to 6 voices, motets, hymns, psalms, and various compositions for organ, in a lofty and austere style supported by a harmonization
