RIBERA, EMMANUELE, venerabile. - Mystic, Redemptorist, b. at Molfetta (Bari) on March 2, 1811, d. at Naples on Nov. 8, 1874, after having been for several years master of novices and spiritual director.

He guided B. Longo in his first steps, preparing him for the work of Pompeii, of which he was later an effective propagandist. He encouraged the good press: to him are owed the complete edition of the works of the ven. P. Sarnelli and the translation and publication of the Fiore dei Bollandisti of Giry. Besides letters of direction, he left several unpublished manuscripts, such as Propositi, lumi e documenti spirituali, and Incitamenti per camminare sempre avanti nell'acquisto delle virtù. In 1932 the apostolic process of his virtues was completed.
