RIBERA, EMMANUELE, Venerable. — Mystic, Redemptorist, b. at Molfetta (Bari) on 2 March 1811, d. at Naples on 8 Nov. 1874, after having been for several years novice master and spiritual director.
He guided the early steps of Bl. Bartolo Longo, preparing him for the work at Pompeii, of which he later became an effective propagandist. He encouraged good printing: to him are owed the complete edition of the works of the Venerable P. Sarnelli and the translation and publication of the Fiore dei Bollandisti by Giry. Besides the edition, he left several unpublished manuscripts, such as Propositi, lumi e documenti spirituali, and Incitamenti per camminare sempre avanti nell'acquisto delle virtù. In 1932 the apostolic process of his virtues was completed.
