Legends would make him a contemporary of Gelasius I (1), under whom he is said to have governed the diocese of Andria and to have participated in 493 in the dedication of the temple of St Michael the Archangel on Mount Gargano. In reality, a RICHARD governed the see of Andria no earlier than the second half of the 12th century.
