PIETRO REGALATO, saint. - Born at Valladolid in 1390, of a distinguished family; died in the convent of Aguilera on 13 May 1458.
He entered the Franciscan Order at the age of thirteen. When Bl. Pietro da Villoctet, promoter of the Observance in Spain, went to Aguilera, in the diocese of Osma, to establish a hermitage there, he passed through Valladolid and found in P. R. one of his first disciples and an untiring collaborator in introducing the Observance into Spain. He entrusted him with the governance of Aguilera while he himself attended to new foundations. In 1422, upon Villoctet’s death, he undertook the consolidation and spread of the Observance. He distinguished himself by his devotion to evangelical poverty and by his charity toward the poor, and was also endowed with the gift of miracles. His cult was confirmed in 1683, and he was solemnly canonized by Benedetto XIV in 1746. Feast day: 13 May.
