ROBERTO CECCHETTO da NOVE. — Capuchin preacher, b. at Nove on 18 Nov. 1869, d. at Udine on 23 Aug. 1939. Having become a Capuchin (solemn profession in 1902), he immediately began preaching in Italy and abroad, a ministry that lasted 30 years.
Precise and up to date in his subjects, he followed social and philosophical problems and studies with passion, in order to grasp what was good and useful and set it against the errors of his time, casting his thought in inimitable forms of manly eloquence. He published numerous articles, speeches, lectures, panegyrics, a manual of oratory (Vicenza 1933, reissued under the title Ministerium verbi the following year), and Le piccole virtù (2 vols., ibid. 1933–37).
