ROGAZIONISTI
Congregation of priests founded in Messina alongside that of the “Daughters of the Divine Zeal” (v.), by Canon Annibale M. Di Francia (v.), assisted by Fr. F. Vitale, and approved by the archbishop of Messina on 6 August 1926. Today it numbers about 200 members and some twenty houses in Italy and abroad.
The Rogazionisti spread among the faithful the “Pious Union of Evangelical Rogation” (erected on 8 December 1900) with its monthly periodical *Rogate ergo*, published in Trani since January 1938, and among ecclesiastics the *Sacra Alleanza* (instituted on 22 November 1897); they assist and educate the children of soldiers and maintain, especially through devotion to the “Bread of St Anthony” (v. ANTONIO DI PADOVA, SANTO), improvements for children in modernly equipped institutes: e.g., the male Antonian orphanages, the Villaggi del fanciullo (the one in Bari being the first of its kind under Latin rite), institutes for the deaf and mute and for the blind.
The Rogazionisti also publish various other periodicals for sacred propaganda, such as: *Dio e il Prossimo* (which has sometimes reached 700,000 copies), *L’Araldo di S. Antonio* (150,000 copies), *Il Villaggio del fanciullo*, and *La voce dell’orfano*. Lamejos.
ROGEL (Heb. ‘En-rôghêl «spring of the Fuller»)
Name of a spring marking, to the south of ancient Jerusalem, the boundary between the territory of the tribe of Judah and that of Benjamin (Jos 15:7; 18:6), near ‘Ebben haz-Zôheleth («serpentine stone», from zhl «to slip, to wind»), where Adonijah, son of David, plotted against his father in order to proclaim himself king (1 Kgs 1:9).
