ROSINI, PIETRO MARIA. - Olivetan abbot, b. in Venezia on 27 Oct. 1728, d. in Adria on 10 May 1807. Archivist, chancellor, secretary general, and subsequently abbot of S. Elena in insula di Venezia. In 1805 he governed the abbey of S. Maria in Organo in Verona; when this was suppressed, he went to Adria, to the abbey of S. Maria, where he died.
A learned historian and palaeographer, and a scrupulous worker, he reordered the archives of S. Maria Nuova in Roma, those of Monteoliveto in Napoli, and those of the abbey of Monteoliveto Maggiore with fine order and elegance. He also founded a Museum of “natural objects.” His greatest work was the arrangement of the documents of S. Maria Nova, where, besides reordering the ancient parchments, he wrapped them in capsules and studied how to restore the damaged ones, gathering them into a volume entitled: Iurium ecclesiae et monasterii S. Mariae Novae tabula.
