ROSINI, PIETRO MARIA. - Olivetan abbot, b. in Venice on 27 Oct. 1728, d. at Adria on 10 May 1807. Archivist, chancellor, secretary general and then abbot of S. Elena in the insula of Venice. In 1805 he governed the abbey of S. Maria in Organo in Verona; when it was suppressed he moved to Adria, to the abbey of S. Maria, where he died.

A learned historian and paleographer, a scrupulous worker, he reorganized the archives of S. Maria Nuova in Rome, that of Monteoliveto in Naples and that of the abbey of Monteoliveto Maggiore with fine order and elegance. He also founded a Museum of "natural things." His greatest work was the arrangement of the papers of S. Maria Nova, where, besides reorganizing the ancient parchments, he wrapped them in capsules and studied how to restore the damaged ones, gathering them into a volume which he entitled: Iurium ecclesiae et monasterii S. Mariae Novae tabula.
