SANTUCCI, PIETRO da MANFREDONIA. – Celestine monk, abbot of the monastery of S. Spirito della Maiella, born on 20 August 1562, died on 1 February 1641. After making his profession, he was assigned to the hermitage of the Maiella, where he revived the fervour of the early days.
Of sharp and lively intellect, he deepened his study of theology, concentrating chiefly on s. Bonaventura, and practised the arts of drawing, sculpture, and architecture with great skill, embellishing that church with paintings and sculptures, and enriching it also with sacred relics. He was favoured with various mystical gifts, delivered the possessed, and cured many sick people through his prayers and blessings.
