RAYMOND PALMERIO (Palmieri, Palmario), Saint. - Pilgrim, b. ca. 1140 at Piacenza, d. there on 28 July 1200. At the age of 12 he took up the cobbler's trade; at 14, his father having died, he made a pilgrimage to Palestine with his mother, who died on the return journey.

Having returned to his homeland, he married and, taking up his old trade again, made his workshop a school of Christian perfection. In a single year he lost five children. Having had a sixth, he offered him to the religious life. Having also lost his wife, he went as a pilgrim to Compostela, to France and to Rome. Returning to his homeland, he founded a hospital and devoted himself to the care of widows, orphans and prisoners. He was a herald of peace in the struggle between Piacenza and Cremona, facing persecution and imprisonment. He worked to put an end to the bloody feuds customary among the young.
