SEPHARVAIM. - A city of the Assyrian Empire from which the "king of Assyria," probably Sargon II, as from the centers of Cutha, Avah, and Emath, recruited emigrants or colonists to repopulate the cities of Samaria, left desolate by recent deportations (2 Kings 17:24). It is identified with Sabarim of Ezek. 47:16, a city of Syria, situated between Emath, with which it is named, and Damascus. Giovanni Rinaldi
