SERIO, ROSA MARIA, VENERABILE

SERIO, Rosa Maria, Venerable. - Carmelite, b. at Ostuni (Lecce) on 6 Aug. 1674, d. in the Carmel of Fasano (Bari) on 9 May 1726, where she had entered at the age of sixteen in 1690, subsequently holding there the offices of mistress of novices and prioress.

Of great spirit of prayer, she sought to reflect in herself with constant penance and mortification the Passion of the Redeemer. She had many charismatic gifts, among them the crown of thorns and the stigmata. She died smiling after seven years of physical martyrdom joined to great mystical sufferings, repeating "Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus". Her cause of beatification was introduced in 1741.
