DANTE ALIGHIERI SOCIETY. - Founded in Rome in 1889 at the initiative of Giacomo Veneziani.
Its aim is "to safeguard and spread the Italian language and culture throughout the world, keeping the spirit of Italian identity alive everywhere, strengthening the spiritual ties of compatriots abroad with their mother country, and fostering among foreigners a love and reverence for Italian civilization" (art. 1 of the Society’s Statute).
