SOCIETY OF THE DAUGHTERS OF SAINT FRANCIS DE SALES (PARIS). - Founded in Paris in 1872 by the abbé Chaumont and the venerable Carré de Molberg.

It received pontifical approval on 18 April 1911, and its special purpose is to help all Catholic works, diocesan and parochial, and the missions, under the dependence of ecclesiastical authority.

The Institute has no vows. Married women are also received (with the prior consent of their husband) and widows. The majority live in their own families, some in community under a special rule, tending toward perfection each according to her own state. Only those who are free and request it go to the missions. The sisters number over 5,000 in 50 houses, divided into religious provinces. It also has affiliated groups of native women in the missions, whose Statutes were temporarily approved in 1950.
