SISTERS OF THE POOR OF SAINT CATHERINE OF SIENA. — Founded in Siena on 18 Dec. 1873 by Savina Petrilli (q.v.).

The decree of praise was granted on 5 Sept. 1890. The Constitutions were definitively approved on 30 June 1906 and, revised in harmony with the Code, on 11 Feb. 1924.

The sisters engage in works of charity toward the poor and the suffering and in aid of children: schools, workshops, day nurseries, boarding schools, hostels, refuges, asylums, hospitals, and recreation centers. The Generalate is in Rome; the sisters number about 750 in approximately 80 houses.
