A pupil with the Daughters of Charity, then a little woman of the house for domestic chores and the education of her little brothers, she devoted herself with passion to the teaching of catechism in the parishes, especially to the preparation of first communicants. Having gathered in her home some companions to work there for the poor and the churches, all of them, on 15 Aug. 1873, made their religious vows in the little domestic chapel, and on 7 Sept. 1874 the new Congregation moved into a new house with the few poor girls already sheltered and educated in her father's house. From that day, under the P.'s government, foundations were not long in coming, whether in Italy, or in Brazil and Argentina, and since the purpose was to succor every moral and material misery of the poor and working class, to the foundling hospitals, nurseries, schools, recreation centers, etc., to hospital assistance in hospitals, asylums, etc., were added printing shops, binderies, agricultural works, fine arts, etc. The P. saw her Institute approved by the Holy See on 15 June 1906. In 1941 the informative process for her beatification was begun.
