SODERINI, EDOARDO. — Italian politician, born in Rome on 22 November 1853, died there on 15 May 1934.
Deeply devoted to the Holy See, he was among the most authoritative members of that group of Italian Catholics who hoped for papal approval of the participation of Italian Catholics in political life and of the formation of a conservative party: aspirations that he expressed through the Roman journal Rassegna italiana, the organ of that group. In the administrative elections, he was among the candidates of the Roman Union and was elected a municipal councillor. A friend of Leo XIII, he compiled the biography of that Pontiff (Milan 1932–34). Deputy for Osimo during the 24th legislature, he became a senator in 1923. His works include: Socialismo e cattolicesimo (Rome 1896); Clericali e monarchia in Italia (there 1898); Il pontificato di Leone XIII (Milan 1932, 3 vols.).
