SODERINI, EDOARDO. - Italian politician, b. in Rome on 22 Nov. 1853, d. there on 15 May 1934.

Deeply devoted to the Holy See, he was among the most authoritative members of that group of Italian Catholics who hoped for papal consent to the participation of Italian Catholics in political life and to the formation of a conservative party: aspirations that he expressed in the Roman journal Rassegna italiana, the organ of that group. In the administrative elections he was among the candidates of the Unione romana and was elected municipal councillor. A friend of Leo XIII, he compiled the biography of that Pontiff (Milan 1932-34). A deputy for Osimo in the XXIV legislature, he was a senator from 1923. Among his works should be remembered: Socialismo e cattolicesimo (Rome 1896); Clericali e monarchia in Italia (ibid. 1898); Il pontificato di Leone XIII (Milan 1932, 3 vols.).
