SODERINI, EDOARDO. - Italian politician, b. in Rome on 22 Nov. 1853, d. there on 15 May 1934.
Devoted to the Holy See, he was one of the most authoritative figures among that group of Italian Catholics who advocated papal consent for the participation of Italian Catholics in political life and the establishment of a conservative party: aspirations which he expressed through the Roman review *Rassegna italiana*, the organ of that group. In the administrative elections, he was among the candidates of the Roman Union and was elected to the city council. A friend of Leo XIII, he compiled the biography of that Pontiff (Milan 1932-34). Deputy for Osimo during the XXIV legislature, he became a senator in 1923. Among his works are to be noted: *Socialismo e cattolicismo* (Rome 1860); *Clericali e monarchia in Italia* (ibid. 1898); *Il pontificato di Leone XIII* (Milan 1932, 3 vols).
