THEOPHYLAKTOS (FEOPLAKT), GORSKIJ. - Russian Protestantizing theologian of the eighteenth century. His date of birth is unknown. He died on 12 Sept. 1788. In 1769 he was rector of the Slavo-Greco-Latin Academy in Moscow, in 1776 bishop of Pereslavl, and in 1788 (?) of Kolomna.
T. is the author of a dogmatic-moral work in 2 vols., very well known in Russian seminaries until 1836: I, Orthodoxae orientalis Ecclesiae dogmata seu doctrina christiana de credendis, usibus eorum qui studio theologico esse consacrarunt addixeruntque adornata accomodatoque, Pietroburgo 1783, 1818, 1827; II, Orthodoxae orientalis Ecclesiae doctrina de agendis, Lipsia 1784, Mosca 1831. He also wrote a compendium: Dogmata christiana orthodoxae fidei theologica proposita atque explicata, Mosca 1773 (in Russian, German, and Latin), Pietroburgo 1792 (in Russian and French). He depends entirely on Teofane Prokopovič and on the Lutheran Budde; he accepts the fundamental Protestant principles concerning the private interpretation of the Bible, Holy Scripture as the sole rule of faith, excludes the “deuterocanonical” books from the canon, etc.
