THEOLOGISCH-PRAKTISCHE QUARTALSCHRIFT. - A pastoral-practical journal of the clergy, characterized by a solid dogmatic and doctrinal foundation, with extensive bibliographies and reviews, as well as reports on the missionary activity of the Church. It is edited by the professors of the Major Seminary of Linz (Upper Austria), who appoint two specialists, generally the professors of pastoral theology and dogmatic theology, to serve as the effective editorial staff.

It is one of the oldest journals of practical theology in the German language. Its founder was Canon Freindaller of the Abbey of St. Florian, Linz (v.), who in 1802 began publishing a Theologisch-praktische Monatschrift, which continued, with some changes in title and frequency, until

1821. With the establishment in the Diocese of Linz, in 1846, of pastoral conferences for the clergy, the desire arose for an appropriate organ, such as the aforementioned journal had been, and in 1848 the first issue of the T

P. Q. appeared. Over time, and under skilled editors, it gained such renown, even beyond the ocean, that it reached a circulation of 18,000 copies. Since 1860, the editorial work has been carried out by the faculty of professors of the Major Seminary. The Nazi regime obstructed and then suppressed the journal (1942). In 1946, it resumed publication, and with the 100th volume (1952), the size of individual issues was significantly increased.
