TOOWOOMBA, DIOCESE OF. – In the southern part of the State of Queensland (Australia).
It was erected from territory detached from the archdiocese of Brisbane and declared a suffragan of the same on 28 May 1929. On 5 May 1950 there was a slight modification of its boundaries.
It has an area of 440,000 sq. km. and a population of 159,000, all of European origin with the exception of very few Aboriginal people. There are 32 parishes, 79 churches, 55 diocesan priests, 16 religious, 28 brothers, 202 sisters, and 40 schools. Catholics number 33,000.
