TRIPOLI DEL LIBANO – See of the homonymous dioceses: 1) of the Maronites (also called Tarabulus), existing since 1534. It has 143 churches, 135 parishes, 136 priests, and 77,000 faithful; inhabitants, 1,330,000; 2) of the Melkites, existing since the 4th century and re-established for the Greek Catholics on 21 March 1897. It has 17 churches, 19 parishes, 18 priests, and 8,000 faithful; inhabitants, 226,759.
